(*5.10.1936 - †18.12.2011) A dramatist, dissident and politician. One of the key protagonists in the demise of the communist regime who became a hero and a symbol of the Velvet Revolution. As president, he not only helped Czechs reacquire their place in Europe, but also their feeling of national pride. He received a number of awards for his work and lifelong efforts aimed at preserving human rights.
