F-553 Rumburk

The first written mention of the town, which long belonged to the Czech aristocratic Ronovec family, dates from 7.7.1298. Its status as a town dates from 1377. Rumburk lay on an important trade route from Upper Lusatia to the interior of Bohemia. “Rumburk sheeting”, a high quality linen cloth, found fame far beyond the borders. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, it was called the Little Paris of the North due to its social life, the appearance of its new architecture and all its amenities. Nowadays, it continues to be the natural centre of the Šluknov Hook and a popular tourist destination.
