F-708 Poděbrady

Poděbrady appears in written sources from approximately the mid-12th century. Its history stretches all the way back to prehistory. Přemysl Otakar II acquired Poděbrady in the 2nd half of the 13th century and built a stone moated castle there. The town which was established under him continued to be a subject of interest among various sovereigns. The golden age occurred for the town under the reign of the lords of Kunstadt, who developed it over six generations. However, it could not avoid the 30 Years War or fire. The discovery of a mineral spring was a significant milestone and 1908 saw the commencement of the first spa season. The spa is still famous to this day.
