Jan Černčický of Kácov laid the foundation stone of the original town on 10.8.1501. The town’s historical centre on a rocky promontory has been preserved. The heritage reserve is dominated by the château which was renovated into its current form in the 1st half of the 20th century by Dušan Jurkovič. Na Zadomí Street, which is home to the Town Museum and the Zázvorka Gallery, is shrouded in history. The nearby Hus Square is home to a number of renovated renaissance facades, which are locally known as the “swallow’s tails”. In 1949, the company which now manufactures PRIM watches was founded there.
