F-570 Most

The first mention of the existence of Most appeared in Kosmas’ Chronicle of 1040. This market settlement located at the intersection of several long-distance routes quickly became a significant economic centre which made the most of its position near the border. In the 13th century, Most was raised to the status of a town, its development was interrupted by war, crop failure and fires at the beginning of the 16th century. A new chapter in the history of the town began to be written at the beginning of the 19th century when coal mining began. Most itself also had to make way for lignite. The old town was demolished and rebuilt some distance away between 1967 and 1982.
