Emperor Franz Joseph’s octagonal observation tower was built in 1884. The advent of hiking saw it expand its accommodation capacity in an adjacent hotel and it also functioned as a post office from 1887. In 1929, the hotel already had 3 large halls and a capacity of 112 guests. The site was used for military purposes during the 2nd World War and it became a recreation centre for the army after the war. The stone lookout tower and the hotel on the highest mountain in the Ore Mountains subsequently fell into disrepair over a long period. The lookout tower was eventually officially reopened on 28.10.2013 after being renovated.
