(*16.7.1773 - †14.11.1847) Czech national revivalist, translator, poet and linguist. He believed that language constituted the essence of a nation and so he spent his life endeavouring to improve the Czech language. His greatest work was a five-volume Czech-German dictionary (120,000 entries), which was the first to translate Czech phrases into another language. He became the pride of the Czech science of his day.
