(*17.8.1753 - †6.1.1829) The greatest figure from the early stages of the national revival and the Czech Enlightenment and a lecturer in Czech studies, a Slavist, an Orientalist and a historian. This remorseless critic and scholar with a brilliant memory dedicated himself completely to science. Even though he spoke a dozen languages, he brought Czech to the threshold of its new heyday. He wrote the History of the Czech Language and Literature (Dějiny české řeči a literatury) and the Exhaustive Grammar of the Czech Language (Zevrubná mluvnice českého jazyka).
