F-733 Jilemnice

The town was established in the 14th century as an economic centre for the Wallenstein estate. The first mention of the local mines dates from the 15th century and the local linen making industry developed in the following century. However, the 30 Years War was catastrophic for the town and things did not take a turn for the better until the beginning of the 18th century, when it became the property of the House of Harrach. The new owners significantly raised the level of local linen making. At the end of the 19th century, Jilemnice became the cradle of Czech skiing and it began to transform into the pleasant gateway into the Western Giant Mountains, which it still is today.
