(*20 July 1822 - †6 January 1884) A brilliant friar who was ahead of his time in his diligence and great observational talent. He is one of the world-famous Czech scientific personalities. He devoted himself to pea breeding, fruit growing, beekeeping and meteorology. He wrote the world-famous publication Experiments with Plant Hybrids, thanks to which he is considered the discoverer of the principles of heredity - the "father of genetics".
