F-707 Děčín Château

This is one of the oldest heritage structures in the Czech Republic. The first indirect mention dates from the end of the 10th century. It was regularly visited by significant personalities such as Fryderyk Chopin and the Empress Sisi. Miners from Krupka carved the unique access road, the so-called Long Ride, directly into the rock over 6 years. The entrancing Rose Garden was established at the end of the 17th century and it was home to more than 80 rose species. There were 18 heated glasshouses in the southern gardens. One of the greatest libraries in the Czech Republic was established at the château (up to 70,000 volumes) thanks to the Thun family.
