The oldest cathedral-type church in Central Europe (1320). After being pillaged and burnt down by Hussite soldiers, the church remained in ruins for 279 years. Even so, it still made a monumental impression and was known as the “most magnificent basilica”. The brilliant Jan Santini-Aichel was in charge of the reconstruction of the church and he adorned it with globally unique structural elements. The building was entered into the UNESCO world heritage list in 1995. It underwent extensive reconstruction (1998–2009) and was re-consecrated by Bishop D. Duka.
