F-662 Český Šternberk Castle

The original early gothic castle was established in 1241–1242 by Zdeslav of Sternberg and it is still owned by the Sternberg family today. The castle was captured and damaged in 1467 after the revolt of the founders against King George of Poděbrady. The subsequent magnificent renovations in the late gothic style focussed on improving the defensive system. The later modifications in the 2nd half of the 17th century reflected the growing demands for the comfort of the inhabitants when the rooms were transformed into baroque château salons. It was not until the beginning of the 20th century that it was modified into a permanently inhabited castle.
