This ancient aristocratic seat on a rocky cliff is documented in writing as early as 1465. The gothic fortress was replaced with a château during the period of the renaissance, the appearance of which changed several times. The estate passed through the hands of a number of owners. For example, the knight Jan Kába of Rybňany, the House of Slawata and the Princes of Schönburg-Hartenstein, who were its last owners. In 1901, Johann Schönburg established an English landscape garden and the seat received its current neo-renaissance appearance in 1902–10. The fairytale château with its typical red exterior has been a popular tourist destination since 1949.
