(* Feb. 4, 1820 - † Jan. 21, 1862) "Our Lady Božena Němcová" is considered the founder of modern Czech prose. In many ways she was a woman out of her time, one who excelled in her talent for narrative and attention to detail. Her domain was fairy tales, short stories and novellas. In her major work, The Grandmother, which excels above all, she returns to her childhood, her home, Ratibořice.
