(*30.6.1868 - †12.4.1944) One of the greatest Orientalists and Arabists from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, a bible scholar, cartographer, ethnologist and traveller who explored sites associated with the Old Testament. He was able to integrate himself into several Bedouin tribes living in the desserts of what is now Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Iraq. He also gained fame for his discovery of Quseir Amram the desert castle.
