The establishment of Vamberk is associated with the existence of a smaller castle on a rocky promontory above the Zdobnice River, which was called Waldenberg. The small town mainly lived from lacemaking, weaving and trading in wood for a number of centuries. Vamberk became internationally famous for its bobbin lace production, the history of which stretches back to the mid-17th century. The textile, stove-making and meat processing industries had their humble beginnings there at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. In just a few years, the “lace town” became one of the most industrialised towns in the entire area.
