F-447 Ústí nad Orlicí

The beginnings of the town stretch back to the 2nd half of the 13th century, when the Slav settlement of “Oustí” began to expand during the reign of Přemysl Otakar II. Ústí was later owned by the church and a number of significant aristocratic houses. Industry developed successfully in the town in the 16th century, especially weaving. After the construction of the railway in 1845, textile factories commenced operations there and the rapid rise of textile production led the town to be given the epithet of the “Manchester of East Bohemia”. It is now one of the centres of the lower Eagle Mountains, a historical and industrial town and a rail hub.
