F-664 Rokytnice nad Jizerou

Rokytnice was established around 1574. It received its name from the Huťský Stream, which used to be known as the Rokytnice based on the adjective “rokytná”, which means water flowing between willow trees. The first citizens felled wood and extracted copper, lead and silver. However, the mines fell into decline after the 30 Years War. The glassmaking tradition was also very important. A glassworks was established in the town before 1562. In the 18th century, the majority of the citizenry was involved in home weaving which was gradually replaced with factory production as time progressed. Now, the town is a popular tourist centre.
