F-457 Kladno

The first mention of Kladno dates from the beginning of the 14th century. It was owned by the Benedictines for the longest period and Kladno’s most significant baroque monument dates from that period (1705-1848). The town underwent rapid industrial growth and development and an influx of inhabitants in the 19th century. In 1870, it was raised to the status of a town and in 1898 it acquired the title of a “royal mining town”. The history of Kladno is associated with mining and the steel industry and it is currently the biggest modern town in the Central Bohemian Region.
