F-539 Julius Johannes Ludovicus von Payer

(*2.9.1841 - †19.8.1915) Mountaineer, polar explorer, discoverer, cartographer, painter and native of Teplice. He conquered more than 100 peaks, of which 43 were first ever climbs. He led an exhibition searching for a sea route from Europe around Russia and to Asia. His greatest discovery was Europe’s northernmost archipelago called Franz Josef Land. Nowadays, it is possible to find Teplitz Bay and Cape Brno.
