F-282 Joachim Barrande

(*11.8.1799 - †5.10.1883) French engineer and palaeontologist famous for his research into fossils and geological formations in Central Bohemia. His collection of Palaeozoic fossils is unequalled in the world; it amounts to more than 250,000 specimens. He willed it to the Museum of the Czech Kingdom with the words: “The fossils in my collection come from the Czech lands, so they belong to the Czech lands.”
